Why I Eat Organic Food
Eating organic food is so important to my health. Choosing organic has changed my life. I have never felt healthier, my immune system is strong and I believe eating organic UNPROCESSED food is essential for wellbeing and longevity. Our ancestors grew and consumed food this way, there’s no reason we can’t too. I want to share with you some of the many reasons I choose to eat organic. Not only for my body, but for the wellbeing of others and the future health of our planet and society.
Why I Eat Organic
1) I care about my health. Every time I put food to my mouth I would like to energise my body with healthy, clean food. My body was not designed to endure a chemical cocktail every time I eat. I know why produce at the local supermarket can sit on the shelves for so long without moulding or fermenting. I don’t want to eat that “food” when I can eat fresh food grown in harmony with nature. Toxicity is one of the causes of dis-ease, it has been proven scientifically now that the chemicals from conventional farming are carcinogenic and cancer causing. Quality of life is important to me and fresh organic food is the simplest way we can impact our health.
2) Again, I care about my wellbeing. It’s worth two points. Research has shown the increased health benefits of eating organic fresh food as opposed to conventional. The nutrient levels are a lot higher and so you’re getting more bang for your buck, you can eat less and receive the same amount of nutrition. Even if you don’t believe the ever increasing amounts of research, or you have read anything that will indicate otherwise (always check the source of your research and who is sponsoring the message, I opt for common sense before research studies) and you don’t believe it has more nutrition, see point 1, I prefer not to ingest chemicals into my body every time I eat. My health and my immune system are strong. These chemicals are shown to induce immune, nervous and endocrine system issues amongst other problems I have mentioned.
3) Healthy Environment. Organic farming works in harmony with Mother Nature. The most direct way we can impact on our planet is by the food we put in our bodies. Eating is something we do every day, most of us, at least three times a day. Eating organically is a contribution to a healthy community and environment. Organic farming (and of course biodynamic) is a sustainable farming method that takes the soil and land into consideration, it allows us to grow produce on it for generations to come. Conventional farming which employs the use of chemical fertilisers, herbicides, pesticides and fungicides degrades the land, harms plants and animals, increases erosion and of course produces toxic run off which affects our water ways and air and ultimately society that depends on these things.
4) It costs less. What? Yes, that’s what I believe. It costs less. You can pay for organic food now, or you can pay for your health later. I believe that eating food as mother nature intended is going to provide us with a healthy, strong body, the price of conventional food doesn’t reveal the hidden costs of environmental pollution, the burden on the medical system, the health compromises of farm workers subjected to these chemicals and so on. The increased nutritional level of foods can also implicate the need to eat less. I believe that as a society we eat a lot more than our body needs anyway! Try this, buy a mixed box (Vitality size) for $72.50 per week plus delivery. That’s just under $80 for 2 people for the week. $5.50 each per day for fresh chemical free produce. A lot cheaper than a coffee, a muffin, a take away lunch, a loaf of bread and low fat milk, an afternoon tea, a take out dinner….. Just focus on fresh, you’ll feel great and you’ll limit your spending on impulse buying of items that are not healthy and make the body sluggish, bloated and feeling gross about your body. 5) I want my children and yours to be healthy. I would like to bring up children in a community with a clean environment and no health compromises. The food we choose to eat on a daily basis will affect our childrens’ wellbeing, especially if we are planning on having children in the future. We’re finding it more common today that mothers are passing chemical residues to unborn babies through their food choices and it has been shown to affect brain development. By eating organic/clean food, I will be providing my children with a healthy start to life.
6) I can only be as healthy as you are. The food I choose to eat affects the wellbeing of the person next to me. The processes used in conventional farming, will intoxicate everything from the soil up, so the more people that eat organic, the less chemicals in our environment, the less soil, plants, animals and humans are affected by the toxins. Organic farming is a sustainable method of keeping the earth productive for future generations, not trashing the planet. If it was good enough for our ancestors for thousands of years, its good enough for us! We have created more damage to our planet in the last 100 years than ever before.
7) I care about the health and happiness of other beings. This includes animals. If you decide to eat animals and animal products, think about the choices you are making when you buy and consume these products on your own body, the animals and the health of all others on this planet. Eat Food As Nature Intended!
Its easy to turn a blind eye, but I think we need to get back to connecting with where our food is from, the closer we get back to nature, the closer we get to experiencing true health. Convenience is definitely a factor in consuming food, eating is probably the most frequent activity we participate in! but if you can spend just 10 minutes a day on sourcing and or preparing healthy wholesome food, your body will be thankful for the time you’ve taken out for your health. This is one of the reasons why I have created an organic home delivery service. There is really no excuse not to choose healthy food, you don’t even have to go and find it, our team will bring it to you. Even if it is only a proportion of your food consumption, just one step gets the ball rolling and you’re on your way to better health. Some people spend hours each week at the gym, on the yoga mat, waiting for take away food, watching TV so why not take that 10 minutes a day and take action through the food you put in your mouth. The food we eat today, talks, feels and moves tomorrow. How do you want to feel tomorrow?
In my opinion, our health is our greatest asset and therefore should be our first priority. We vote with our dollar. By supporting organic farming, you’re supporting a healthy sustainable planet and the wellbeing of other people and yourself!
